CALIFORNIA—One prominent video game studio is in panic after realizing there’s nobody left to fire. To quell their thirst for laying people off one exec recommended going on a hiring spree so they could lay them off after a few months. “Nobody will suspect a thing,” he said. Another exec asked if they could re-fire past employees.
The video game industry is currently experiencing mass layoffs that began in late-2023 and has continued into 2024. When asked what could be done to stifle the layoffs the head of the studio, who made over $20 million last year, said “we did everything we could.”
